I began art directing under the tutelage of Rick Carter, who felt I could help him best by supervising all the steamy stage jungles for Jurassic Park, while they went to Hawaii. I got the better deal though, I missed the hurricane. When I went into VFX again, things were beginning to change and VFX art direction was more like production art direction, planning, coordinating, supervising and only a little design. On Stuart Little, Polar Express and most recently on Beowulf I served as the cohesive force for the imagery, pulling together the work of the Production Designer and his concept artists, coordinating with the motion capture props and sets and getting it all ready for and comprehensible to the digital production team.
